Temple has yet to name a starting quarterback for the time.
The four candidates for the job usually are redshirt junior Frank Nutile, redshirt sophomore Logan Marchi, redshirt freshman Anthony Russo along with freshman Todd Centeio. One of them will have to stuff the shoes of Phillip Walker, whom holds the record for the most wins in program history.
But in Media Day Monday, attacking coordinator Dave Patenaude gave the perfect target for when he would love to determine who will be under heart for the season opener during South Bend, Indiana about the University of Notre Dame on June. 2.
“Well, I think, you know, we’d like to be two weeks out after we name a starter,Inch Patenaude said. “By that time, we start reading good into the Notre Dame game plan than the standard game plan for camp. Which means that usually two weeks out, we would like to get in …and get into a few team stuff.”
One of the biggest problems for Temple’s coaching staff is checking four players who don’t have a great deal game experience at the school level. The two who do have got game experience, Nutile and Marchi, have emerged for 11 total completing attempts.
Russo redshirted last season and Centeio was an early enrollee in the spring.
Patenaude mentioned each potential quarterback provides a different skillset, and he plans to have fun with to the strengths of the person becomes the starting quarterback. But he added Centeio brings a different element to the wrongdoing than his other some competitors for the job.
“If he ended up being the quarterback, you would contain a wider range of plays you can call based on the fact that although be a great option player with the ball,” Patenaude reported.
“Conversely, can he handle the many run checks? Can he or she handle himself in front of Seventy two,000 people?” they added, referring to Centeio. “So those are the account balances you have to weigh with a youthful quarterback. I would say for a guy who really hasn’t used a fall camp snap however, he’s way ahead of in which a lot of guys are. Thus he is a viable option.”
