Kicker duo is ‘weapon’ in football’s first win

Ed Foley walked toward Austin Henderson and Aaron Boumerhi after Villanova tied the particular score late in the last quarter.

“[Foley] looked at Austin and also was like, ‘No matter what the distance is, be ready. You guys will have to win this game for all of us,'” Boumerhi said.

Boumerhi missed a 48-yard niche goal attempt earlier amongst players. The sophomore got the jerk for a 49-yard field goal try out with the game on the line.

He has been nervous, but encouragement with Jones and Foley helped Boumerhi start the career-long kick through the uprights to give Temple a 16-13 success.

Temple used both Jones and also Boumerhi in field-goal situations against Villanova. Jackson, a senior, went 1-for-1, though Boumerhi went 2-for-3. The duo merged for 10 points in the contest.

“There was no doubt that many of us were going to kick the field purpose if we were within the selection, and it was well within the range,” coach Geoff Collins reported. “[Boumerhi’s] got a strong leg. I am confident with Austin, confident with [Boumerhi], but simply the distance today [Boumerhi] had the tibia bone for that kick.”

When Temple started its drive with several minutes and 23 just a few seconds left in the fourth one fourth, Jones and Boumerhi started to practice field goals on the part time.

Redshirt-junior wideout Ventell Bryant made a one-handed catch for the 29-yard? gain to set up Temple in Villanova area. The Owls picked up one more initial down because of a defensive possessing penalty on Villanova.

As Jones and Boumerhi noticed the field goal effort was going to be from a extended distance, Boumerhi began to take more practice kicks than Jones, Boumerhi said.

Though Jones and Boumerhi fight each other for field purpose tries in games, Boumerhi mentioned the two have a camaraderie.

“[Jones] aids downplay the situation a lot for my situation, because sometimes there’s a game-winning kick and their head goes almost all crazy,” Boumerhi said. “We either do a really good job of learning martial arts each other in that sense. Perform a really good job of observing each other’s technique and ensuring it’s fundamentally sound.”

The education staff decides to send Williams or Boumerhi out for area goals depending on the distance, Boumerhi stated. The coaches’ plan was in which Jones would attempt any sort of kicks shorter than 43 yards.

Boumerhi’s attempts this season come from 44, 48 and Forty-nine yards. Jones’ lone attempt about Saturday was from 22 yards.

In last week’s game with the University of Notre Dame, Jones moved 1-for-2 on field goal endeavours. The kicks were both from 36 yards.

“We got two guys that can really help us no matter who most of us plug in,” redshirt-senior defensive lineman Sharif Finch proclaimed. “It’s great having that as being a weapon.”

In Boumerhi replaced Jones immediately after he tore his ACL from Memphis. Boumerhi finished the season 15-for-17 on discipline goals after he made his or her first eight attempts.

Redshirt-senior fullback Computer chip Sharga said that experience helped Boumerhi get yourself into the moment and make the game-winning industry goal.

“Last year was once I actually won a baseball game,” Boumerhi said. “Because during high school, the games that we played in we never acquired. It was the first time I had to make a crucial kick prefer that in a game.”
