GAME NOTES

ST. Philip, Minn. C The Gustavus men’s hockey group opens its 2017-18 Minnesota Intercollegiate Fitness Conference Schedule this weekend by using a series against St. Olaf Institution. The Oles  host the Gusties  within Northfield at 7:30 p.m. Friday prior to the Gusties household opener Saturday evening in Don Roberts Ice Rink.

1968 and 1993 Celebrations

Saturday’s season opener will characteristic the 25th and Fiftieth anniversary celebrations of the 1967-68 and also 1992-93 MIAC Championship Gustavus men’s hockey clubs.

The 1968 Gusties finished their convention schedule with a 12-2 record together with entered the first annual NAIA match in St. Paul, Minn., positioning third in a four staff field. The 1993 Gusties presented the program’s 13th conference concept as they skated to a 13-2-1 record through MIAC play. The Gusties defeated Mary’s in the MIAC Semifinals, followed by a win above St. Thomas to claim the actual playoff title and a bid towards NCAA Tournament.

Last time out

The Gusties opened the 2017-18 campaign last weekend at the MIAC Emphasize at Schwan’s Super Rink in Blaine, Minn., plummeting 3-2 in overtime against Augsburg Institution and tying Concordia College 1-1. About Friday, the Gusties held some sort of 2-1 lead heading into the lastly period. However, Gustavus allowed the absolutely no. 13-ranked Auggies to roar back and earn the win. On Saturday, the Black and Precious metal again took the first guide before giving up the game-tying aim against the Cobbers in the third. Any teams teams were kept scoreless in the extra period along with were led to a shootout. Jake Bushey notched the shootout game-winner for bragging liberties.

First-years featured

Nine Gustavus freshman cracked the group at the MIAC Showcase, including sophomores Charlie Haugen and Casey Stone appearing in the first games within Black and Gold. This Gustie newcomers also accounted for one half of the team’s scoring through the first two games. Will LeNeave and Logan Gary tallied their first collegiate ambitions, Caleb Anderson and Logan Haskins contributed assists, and goalie Robbie Goor made his collegiate debut around goal, recording 17 conserves.
